HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

 

The Department of B.Sc Home Science-Interior Design and Décor was started in the academic year 2015 to meet the demand for talented and professional interior designing who can collaborate and create a more aesthetically pleasing environment for the end user.

 

COURSE HIGHLIGHTS:

 

Interior Designers are decorators who are independent thinkers and innovators. They create inspiring, functional, socially responsible and aesthetic designs for private residential, corporate, public and exhibition spaces by using color architectural design and decor. Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space. Students

learn skills in a wide range of areas including design concepts, interior elements, furnishings, applied visual arts and design principles in both residential and commercial spaces. Main objective is to develop the discipline by preparing undergraduate students to be prominent interior design professionals who are competent knowledge and leaders in the field. They learn to create and space planning issues. Selection of furniture and finishes and

preparation of drawings.

Students learn to visualize and display interior designing ideas and plans which are effective and more career oriented and an extensive knowledge of basic and advanced interior designing ideas to create the best places suited for their clients.

 

AREA OF INTEREST:

The Program is designed to instill a creative blend in its aspiring students. The course deals with designing, creating, renovating and planning a space for people. The course provides an extensive knowledge in the range of basic and advanced interior design to create comfortable spaces from the scratch. Students also go through a training session for various Computer-related courses and expertise in CAD, 3-D designing and space management. The course also teaches students some basic fundamentals of graphic design and other display and design software. Candidates learn about various software that can be useful in designing spaces. The course is

designed to widen the knowledge and understanding of candidates scientifically.

 

COURSE OUTCOMES:

 

The curriculum reflects the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE). At the end of each course, students will be able to

1. Apply ethical practices in the professional field by adhering to building byelaws and codes.

2. Understand the importance of green environment and sustainability of natural resources and make use of these resources to create a comfortable environment.

3. Use eco-friendly materials in creating designs.

4. Identify resources that can be reused and recycled for a greener environment.

5. Acquire in depth knowledge and skills by participating in various competitions, seminars and workshops.

6. Evaluate these skills to enhance confidence and self-esteem.

The Faculty of the Department has a qualified, young dynamic and dedicated teaching staffs who endeavor not only to impart knowledge and skill to the students, but ensure that their life in college is meaningful and memorable. The Faculty of the department induce themselves in academic extracurricular and co-curricular activities to spread their wings and take part in a plethora of activities bringing laurels to the college. A number of Educational Visit, Workshop, and World Record Events are organized by the faculty which attracts participation of students.
