History of the Department:

The Department of Visual Communication was established in the academic year 2003-2004 with only 20 students and 2 faculty members. Over the years, the department has grown and now comprises 17 faculty members, 400 students, two sections, and a post-graduate course. The department is known for its excellent quality of education and has become a benchmark in the field. The students are equipped with skills to develop visual storytelling through various methods such as interactive websites, mobile platforms, and motion graphics, including animation, video, and data visualizations. The students are taught about information architecture and compositional aesthetics, which are used to create successful visual narratives in print, digital, online, and mobile media. The department is equipped with modern facilities, such as an audio booth, editing suite, computer lab, shooting floor with chromakey screens, seminar hall, and a drawing studio. These facilities are designed to help students complete their work and to train them to meet industry standards.

 

Course Highlights:

 

1. Curriculum: The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of visual communication, including photography, television production, film- making, advertising, graphic design, and animation.

2. Practical Training: The program provides ample opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in the field through internships, industry visits, and practical training sessions.

3. Faculty: The faculty members of the program are highly qualified and experienced professionals from the industry who bring in their expertise and knowledge to provide quality education to the students.

Visual communication is a diverse field that encompasses a range of interests. Some common areas of interest within visual communication include:

1. Graphic Design: Creating visual designs and graphics using typography, color, and other elements to communicate a message.

2. Advertising: Developing creative concepts and visual campaigns to promote products and services through various media channels.

3. Photography: Capturing and editing images to convey a message or tell a story.

4. Film-making: Directing, producing, and editing films and videos for entertainment or educational purposes.

5. Animation: Creating animated content for films, television, video games, or websites.

6. Web Design: Designing and developing websites using visual and interactive elements to enhance user experience.

7. Multimedia: Developing interactive media content that combines various forms of media, such as text, graphics, audio, and video.

 

Course Outcomes:

Student will acquire

1) Knowledge of Communication and its types, Human Communication, Visual Communication ,nature of communication

2) Knowledge of Communication process, connotation and denotation, Barriers in communication, Semiotics, Language and Visual communication, Design fundamentals, Elements of design, Principles of

design, Design and designers

3) Knowledge of Visual and sensory perceptions, Colour psychology and theory, Visual illusions, various stages of design process, problems, analysis, decision making

4) Knowledge of Graphic design basics, elements and principles of design, Design concept and ideas, Verbal and visual combinations, Visual Thinking and its techniques, design execution and presentation

 

Faculty Details:

The Department has a team of 17 faculty members who are highly qualified and dedicated. Some of the assistant professors are qualified with NET/SET, while others are currently pursuing doctoral research in

various subjects related to media studies. The faculty members are committed to providing quality education to students with different learning needs and capabilities. They provide remedial assistance to

those who struggle with the language and tailor their course delivery accordingly. Moreover, the faculty members go the extra mile to support the students in their creative endeavors.

They help in editing and publishing the works of the students, which is a testament to their commitment to nurturing and promoting the talent of their students.
